What a great experience with these guys. Honest and very capable mechanics. Throwbacks. I initially took my car to Pep Boys in Rancho Park to buy a tire and have it installed. The car was running perfectly and has never had any engine trouble in 5 years. As I drove away, the car suddenly had engine problems. This was really weird because the hood never should have been opened to fix a tire. I returned to the location and asked Pep Boys how I could suddenly have engine problems. They denied even opening the hood. They diagnosed the problem as an electrical problem and that likely I would need to replace the hybrid battery system ($2500 cost). The car now would not start. I had to have the car towed to Car Nerds in Santa Monica to get a second opinion. Matt and Rony at Car Nerds identified that Pep Boys disconnected the tube to the mass air flow sensor (likely in an effort to up sell me a new air filter) and failed to reconnect it, causing the engine trouble. True story; I know, hard to believe. Car Nerds fixed this apparently serious problem with my car that Pep Boys in Rancho Park caused and could neither diagnose, nor fix. It took Rony and Matt less than 5 minutes to diagnose and fix the problem - which was so easy for them that they refused payment (I insisted they accept a nice tip). What a pleasure to deal with old fashioned honest and capable mechanics! I am grateful that I met them and will now go to them for any car repair needs.
